Al-Qaeda Prisoners Freed In Iraqi Jailbreaks

Iraqi officials say hundreds of inmates have escaped from two Iraqi prisons after gunmen stormed the complexes.

Abu Ghraib west of Baghdad and Taji to the north were both assaulted late Sunday night.

Mortars, gunfire and homicide bombers were used to free multiple Al-Qaeda terrorists. Officials estimate at least 500 prisoners are at large. At least 20 members of the Iraqi Security Force were killed in the assault.

Interior Minister Wissam al-Firaiji said the attackers were “terrorists” who were very “well-armed”.

The jailbreaks were not the only terrorists attacks on security forces as a homicide bomber drove a car next to a military convoy in Mosul, killing 33 people including civilians.
