At least 30 public universities have agreed to make changes to their policies to make sure the First Amendment rights of Christian students will be protected on campus.

The Alliance Defending Freedom has listed a wide variety of violations against Christian students and groups including forcing those groups to allow voting members of the group be people hostile to the group’s beliefs and to prohibit those groups from using facilities that non-religious students groups are free to use.

“Public universities should encourage, not censor, the free exchange of ideas,” said ADF Senior Counsel Kevin Theriot told the Christian Post. “This effort has given public universities and colleges the opportunity to respect the constitutionally protected freedoms of their students without any costly litigation. The objective has been to inform officials of how their policies conflict with the Constitution, as reinforced by numerous federal court rulings, so that the schools can make changes.”

The ADF said the biggest challenge facing the group is campus administrators using their authority to intimidate Christian students into silence on topics that non-Christian groups disagree on Biblical principles like abortion and pre-marital sex.
