We have just experienced an awful couple of days here in Missouri and most of the “heartland” of the nation with storms and deadly tornados. Our hearts and prayers go out to the families who have lost loved ones.
Sometimes when things like this happen, we will try to make sense of it all. But, as Christians, we must submit our quest to understand the ‘whys,’ to our FAITH which always comforts and consoles us, whether we understand or not.
Faith is rooted in the deepest and simplest belief that our God is good, and His love endures forever. This truth is found throughout the Bible but mostly in the Psalms, which most scholars believe were predominantly written by King David – whom God says was “a man after my own heart.”
A lot of things went wrong in David’s life and he was often overwhelmed with grief and depression because of these things. But David had a heart that never questioned nor forgot the goodness of God and His unfailing love, even in the midst of tragedy.
Let’s remember that our God is good – a basic tenet of our faith – and that He will comfort and console those who belong to Him.
Remember to give thanks to the Lord because He is good – and pray a fervent prayer for the comfort of those who have lost loved ones.
Love,
O gee I wrote and somehow it got lost…so I will do it again. We do not always understand why things happen, but we can trust that God is with us and will answer our prayers even when we see total devastation like in Oklahoma…My heart goes out to them and I recall seeing some stories about teachers praying in the midst of the tornado….no one was complaining about prayer in school at that time. I know God answered many prayers that day…in spite of the devastation we see on our TV and internet. My heart rejoices with the elderly lady who had prayed for herself and her dog during the tornado and her dog got ripped away..she thought she had lost her dog ,but during a news interview she was reunited with her precious dog and God spared her dog that day…God cares about everything in our lives…He asks us to trust Him….we do not need to understand, but to trust Him , yes God wants us to trust Him…even in times we cannot understand.”especially “in times we cannot understand. ((hugs)) MyMy
THANK you,Lori…for reminding us all what FAITH is actually all about. If you question God on things such as this…it’s lack of faith. As Christians,we are called to believe that our Father In heaven loves us and will always have what is GOOD ffor us,and not harm.
I look at all this devastation and rememberyou and Pastor Jim going to that horrible flood that time…Ohmygosh..it was HORRIBLE for those poor people!
I pray that help comes in swiftly for all the tornado victims that have lost everything…in Yeshua’s name.
I will close with prayers for your ministry and your family.
Blessings and hugs!
Melinda
Thanks Lori for helping to keep things such as this in the forefront of my mind…. especially for those of us not remotely connected geographically with such disasters, but connected in spirit and weep with those who weep.
My heart grieves with the great losses,of life and homes. Your words of encouragement and truth lift our spirits above the devastation to press on to minister the love, salvation, redemption and restoration of our Lord Jesus Christ and more than ever to pray for those who are living day to day in the devastated areas! It saddens my heart what their daily lives must be right now… I pray that the region will become Ephraims to become “fruitful in the land of their suffering” by God’s mercy & grace, and by the prayers of those who love the Lord.
Bouquets of His Blessings in these times of sorrow,
Kathlene
