Hurricane Danny quickly strengthened overnight to become a Category 3 major hurricane.
The storm was located about 900 miles east of the eastern Caribbean Islands and continues on a westward path.

Danny carried maximum sustained winds of 115 m.p.h. on Friday according to the National Hurricane Center (NHC). The NHC added that they do not predict the storm will strengthen any further and that because of “unfavorable conditions” the storm will weaken before it makes landfall.

“We are hoping that that system will eventually weaken down to a tropical storm with winds at 65 mph before making its way over the Windward Islands, the Lesser Antilles or the Leeward Islands as we get closer to early next week,” meteorologist Julie Durda said.
The NHC noted because Danny’s unusually small size, it’s hard to predict the storm.

“Danny’s compact size makes it subject to significant fluctuations in strength, both up and down, and such fluctuations are notoriously difficult to forecast,” the center said in a forecast discussion online on Thursday.

Meanwhile, the NHC is tracking Tropical Storm Kilo in the Pacific. The storm is predicted to hit hurricane status and strike Hawaii based on current models.
