Detroit Abortion Stats “Like Some Third World Country”

“We’re seeing a picture that looks more like some Third-World country than someplace in the United States.”

Dr. Susan Schooley of Henry Ford Hospital spoke those words in reference to statistics that almost one in every three pregnancies in Detroit ends in the life of the child being stopped via abortion.

The data from 2012, the most recent year full stats are available, shows that 31 percent of pregnancies in Detroit, or 5,693 pregnancies, ended in abortion.  The abortion rate of of 37.9 per 1,000 residents is triple the rate of the rest of the state.  The rate in Detroit has skyrocketed when the rate in the rest of the state has decreased.

Doctors associated with the study said that the data showed a direct correlation between poverty and abortion.  Over 42 percent of women who has abortions were below the federal poverty level and did not have access to alternatives to abortion.
