The body of a missing 8-year-old girl was found Monday afternoon in the Deep Fork River in Oklahoma, the 18th confirmed dead from the weekend tornadoes and heavy rain.
The death toll includes seven members of an extended family from Guatemala who sought to hide from a tornado in a storm drain. They were swept away in flash flooding.
A family member told CNN that four of the dead were children.
Officials in Oklahoma County said a 65-year-old man died Saturday night when he drove off a washed out bridge and drowned in a creek.
Oklahoma had the most fatalities from the weekend storms but other states reported deaths from flash flooding. At least three people died in Missouri and four in Arkansas. The Arkansas deaths included a sheriff’s deputy and wildlife officer who tried to save two women from a flooded home.
