Military officials said Islamic terrorists launched coordinated attacks across Northeast Nigeria that has killed at least 55 people. The attack struck Barna in Borno state that has seen almost continual terror assaults since Boko Haram began their campaign of terror in 2010.
The terrorists used the assault to raid a federal prison and free 105 inmates.
Military spokesman Lt. Col. Sagir Musa the raid on the prison came from 200 terrorists in buses and pickup trucks mounted with machine guns. Musa said two soldiers died in the attack while 10 terrorists were killed.
“They came in army uniform pretending to be soldiers but we were able to detect them,” Musa told reporters.
Communications were down around the Borno state so military officials and civilians were unable to get a final total of the dead and wounded from the assaults. At least 22 police officers, three children and a woman were confirmed to be dead.
Despite the deployment of more soldiers and police to the region the violence has continued to escalate between the government and the Islamic terrorists.
