EU Leaders Concerned About Europeans Fighting With Syrian Rebels

Luke 21:9-10: [Jesus said] "When you hear of wars and revolutions, do not be frightened. These things must happen first, but the end will not come right away." Then he said to them, "Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom."

The head of anti-terrorism in the European Union is sounding concern regarding the number of Europeans fighting with extremists in Syria.

Gilles de Kerchove estimated the number of Europeans involved directly in the fighting at 500. He showed concern that these people would become radicalized during their time with Islamic rebels and then would pose a threat to Europe upon their return.

“Not all of them are radical when they leave, but most likely many of them will be radicalised there, will be trained,” Mr de Kerchove told the BBC. “And as we’ve seen this might lead to a serious threat when they get back.”

The problem is growing so fast that the Netherlands has raised their terror alert level out of concern for citizens radicalized by Syrian rebels who have returned to the country. Other EU intelligence organizations have stepped up surveillance and investigations of those returning to the continent from Syria.
