Matthew 24:7 Then he said to them: “Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be great earthquakes, famines and pestilences in various places, and fearful events and great signs from heaven.”
A one-two punch of flash flooding and a 5.6-magnitude earthquake has killed 24 Afghan citizens and injured hundreds.
The earthquake struck around 2 p.m. about 17 miles northwest of Jalalabad. At least nine have died in the region around the epicenter including a child. Hundreds of homes collapsed during the quake leaving thousands homeless.
“People have lost their homes, and have nowhere to go but spend the night in the open in the rain,” a local resident told the BBC.
While the quake rattled southeast Afghanistan, the Balkh province in the far north suffered heavy rains that swept away more than 2,500 homes and killed over a dozen people. The flooding also swept away most of the livestock in the region killing hundreds of sheep, cattle and chickens.
Officials in the region are appealing for government help for the citizens who have lost everything.
