Boston’s top cop is saying that the Boston Marathon bombers had planned to attack more people based on evidence discovered during the investigation.
Police Commissioner Ed Davis said that the terrorists had been carrying homemade bombs and grenades that they threw at police when cornered.
“We have reason to believe, based upon the evidence that was found at that scene – the explosions, the explosive ordnance that was unexploded and the firepower that they had – that they were going to attack other individuals,” Davis told CBS. “That’s my personal belief at this time.”
Davis said that over 250 rounds of ammunition were found at the scene and that the ground was so covered with unexploded IEDs that arriving officers had to be warned about them as they approached the main assault area.
Officials are dismantling the weapons used by the terrorists and are using them to track their sources. Police investigators believe it could provide them with significant information regarding suppliers across the eastern seaboard.
The surviving terrorist remains in critical condition, sedated and with a breathing tube. Boston’s mayor said they might never be able to question him.
