Giant Mosquitoes Likely In Florida This Summer

Matthew 24:10,11 Then he said to them: “Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be great earthquakes, famines and pestilences in various places, and fearful events and great signs from heaven.

Sinkholes aren’t the only problem plaguing Florida this year.

LiveScience has reported that weather conditions are right for an outbreak of a giant mosquito that has a “ferocious bite.”

The mosquitoes are the size of a quarter and usually hatch after a flood or heavy rain. The females are the blood feeders while males seek out flower nectar. Last year, a large outbreak of the pests occurred after Tropical Storm Debby and current weather models show a significant rainy season for the state.

The eggs have a long durability and can hatch years after being planted even if they completely dry so it’s hard for scientists to predict the highest potential level of the pest.

“It’s mean, and it goes after people, and it bites, and it hurts,” Anthony Pelaez of the Tampa Museum of Science and Industry said. He described the bite’s pain as similar to being stabbed.

The mosquito, which likes to strike not only humans but fish, wild animals and pets, is also believed to be resistant to bug repellent.

The good news according to University of Florida researchers is that the mosquito is not considered a significant threat to spread mosquito-borne illnesses.
