Five Killed In Columbian Landslide

A landslide in the exact location of a previous landslide has killed 5 people and left 25 others missing near Neiva, Columbia.

Columbian officials say at least six cars have been trapped under the tons of mud and rocks. The landslide killed a heavy machine operator who had been clearing debris from a previous landslide caused by an earthquake in the area.

Rescue operations have been suspended due to safety concerns. The National Rescue Director told local radio that they will need “many heavy machines” to clear the road and look for any possible survivors.

Red Cross teams and police with cadaver dogs are on-site to look for and treat survivors. Hundreds of firefighters, paramedics and military forces have converged on the site.
