Hundreds of Thousands Flee Syria’s Largest City

Matthew 24:6 You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come.

<blockquote>“Hardly a day goes by when our senses are not bludgeoned by some new outbreak of terrorism in the Middle East.  Despite our best efforts at making and keeping the peace, political, economic, and religious tensions often lead to unrest, violence, and riots.”

Over 200,000 people have fled the Syrian city of Aleppo due to the intense fighting between rebels and government forces.

In addition to those fleeing the battles, UN Humanitarian head Valerie Amos stated many are trapped within the city and need urgent help to escape or be provided with food and clean water.

Ian Pannell of the BBC stated the rebels are outgunned but that they are using effective guerilla warfare tactics to keep the battle from becoming a slaughter. Most of the fighting is in the southwestern part of the city where the rebels have their strongest encampments.

The UN Security Council is changing the Presidency this month to France and that country’s foreign minister is vowing to continue pressing the matter.

“We must try everything,” he told reporters, “even though Russia and China have blocked resolutions on three separate occasions.”

In light of the mass killing of civilians and rebels by government forces, Russia’s prime minister is softening their rhetoric. Dmitry Medvedev told the UK’s “The Times” newspaper that the positions of his country and that of the US & UK are not as different as suggested.
