Kenyan Leaders Ask EU For Military Intervention In Somalia

Rev 6:3-4 NCV When the Lamb opened the second seal, I heard the second living creature say, "Come!" Then another horse came out, a red one. Its rider was given power to take away peace (prosperity, rest) from the earth and to make people kill each other (butcher, slaughter, to maim violently, in streets), and he was given a big sword (assassins sword, terrorist, loud, mighty, sore afraid).

Kenya’s prime minister is asking the United States and European Union to send troops for a “final onslaught” against a seaport seen as the main stronghold of Islamist militant group al-Shabab.

“An operation by land, sea and air,” Raila Odinga stated when asked about what would be required to take the city of Kismayo from the Islamists.

The declaration was not warmly welcomed by officials within the EU.

“We have to be very careful to operate within the bounds of international law,” EU foreign policy spokesman Michael Mann told the BBC. “At the moment we feel fighting al-Shabab is more effectively done through other means.”

The EU has troops in the region to fight against Somali pirates. The forces have a mandate to only engage with pirates attempting to hijack ships and to destroy the pirates’ bases and weapon caches.

Kismayo is the main source of revenue for the Islamic group. They levy excessive “taxes” upon anyone who wishes to use the port. With that funding source, the government has been unable to weaken the Islamist rebel group.
